EFG welcomes adoption of EU Single Market Strategy

EFG welcomes the European Commission’s publication of the Single Market Strategy on 21 May 2025, aimed at addressing persistent regulatory and administrative barriers across the internal market. EFG strongly supports the Strategy’s emphasis on simplification of procedures, regulatory convergence, and enhanced mobility of professionals, all of which are pivotal to fostering a resilient and competitive European economy.

BDG: Meggen Raw Materials Days

The 11th Meggen Raw Materials Days will take place between 10 and 12 September 2025 at the Stadthalle in Lennestadt-Altenhundem. Registration is open until 14 August 2025.

The following main topics will be addressed this year:

  • Geocommunication in exploration and mining
  • New developments in the European and German mining sector
  • UNFC and the PERC reporting standard: Their complementary use in the evaluation and reporting of mineral projects.

GSL: Invitation to 'This is Geoscience' Launch event

The Geological Society of London invites you to a special evening event on Tuesday, 2 September, to mark the official launch of ‘This is Geoscience’, their exciting new public engagement and careers campaign.

Led by the Geological Society, ‘This is Geoscience’ is a long-term initiative to reframe public understanding of geoscience and inspire the next generation of geoscientists. The campaign features new careers and educational resources, up-to-date salary and job market data, and insights into recruitment trends over the past two decades. Developed to be freely used and shared across the geoscience community ‘This is Geoscience’ aims to address misconceptions, broaden participation, and showcase the critical importance of geoscience in tackling global challenges.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe announces the launch of its Knowledge Hub on UNFC and UNRMS.
The Knowledge Hub is a centralised, user-friendly platform where all stakeholders — regardless of their level of experience — can access structured, practical information on the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS). Whether you're new to these frameworks, applying them in practice, working on policy, evaluating projects, or supporting education — the Knowledge Hub provides organised content to support understanding and implementation. It features training materials, case studies, and answers to frequently asked questions — all in one place.

Endorsed training: Become a Raw Materials Risk Manager with IRTC

IRTC is offering a 10-hour course from 1 to 4 September, allowing you to become a Raw Materials Risk Manager, certified in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024. After completing the course, you will be capable of identifying material supply risks and understanding the challenges and mitigation options related to critical raw materials.

The IRTC-Training has been endorsed by EFG and holders of the European Geologist (EuroGeol) title receive a 20% discount. The training is accredited with 18 CPD points (Continuing Professional Development).

As a contributor to the Strategy’s public consultation, EFG sees this milestone as a vital step toward safeguarding Europe’s water resources in the face of intensifying climate and societal challenges.

Under Horizon Europe, the European Commission supports research and innovation to protect and restore European soil. This year, the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” makes available €121 million in EU funding for innovative research projects under 13 topics. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2025 for single-stage calls and 4 September 2025 for two-stage calls.
